Some Epson projector models include a password protection feature as a precaution against theft. In the case of special, educational use only 'e' editions like the EB-X6e, this security measure is enabled by default.
When password protection is enabled, entering the wrong password three times will cause the projector to be locked. A power cut or other power outage can also trigger the projector's security. In either case, the projector will then display:
This article explains what to do if you receive this message, and answers some related questions.
The projector will display the error message for approximately five minutes, then switch to standby mode. When this happens, follow the steps below to reset the projector.
Please follow these instructions exactly, and only carry them out when absolutely necessary. Entering a password incorrectly 30 times in succession may cause your projector to become "hard locked". If this happens, your projector can only be unlocked by a specialist engineer.
Power off the projector using the power button on either the projector or the remote control.
Remove the power cable from the back of the projector.
You must physically remove the power cable from the projector. If the projector is ceiling-mounted and connected to the mains by a long extension cable, ensure that the cable is fully unplugged from the wall or ceiling power socket. The projector must be completely disconnected from the mains power supply or it may not reset correctly.
Leave the projector disconnected from the mains for 15 minutes.
Reconnect the power cable and power on the projector.
The projector should display your normal password prompt screen. Enter your password and the projector should resume normal operation.
Otherwise, if the projector still displays the same message, repeat the steps above and ensure that the projector is fully disconnected from the mains for 15 minutes. If there is still no change then contact Epson for further advice. Please note that you will need to provide the following:
If you can't remember your password, try the default (see the next section below).
Otherwise, enter the password incorrectly three times. The projector will display "The projector's operation will be locked" along with a 5-digit Request Code. Contact Epson to obtain a code to unlock your projector, but please note that you will need to provide the following:
If you do not have the password or cannot locate it, make a note of your projector's serial number and contact Epson for advice.
For standard business projectors you can find the default password in your user's guide.
Special, educational use only 'e' models like the EB-X6e carry an orange security label and have a different default password. This password is included in the documentation that accompanied your projector.

The 4-digit unlock code is your new temporary password. Once you have unlocked the projector, the default password is restored.
If the projector is displaying the password prompt, enter the unlock code.
If the projector is displaying "The projector's operation will be locked" with no password prompt, follow the previous steps above to reset the projector. After powering it back on, when the projector displays the password prompt enter the unlock code you've been given.
Once you've unlocked the projector, we recommend that you change the password. For model-specific instructions see your user's guide, available from the Epson website.
Each unlock code is unique. If you lock the projector again, you cannot use the same unlock code.
If there is no change after following the instructions above, make a note of your projector's serial number and contact Epson for further advice.
